Program Offerings

  • Field Day (Jan 10). An outdoor 5th grade community building event consisting of a hike to/from Shephard Canyon Park where students will participate in games and group activities.
  • NatureBridge Outdoor Learning Field Trip (Jan 24). A day spent in small learning groups led by a professional NatureBridge educator exploring Golden Gate Recreational Park. Students engage in collaborative, authentic scientific learning experiences in a safe and supportive environment. These experiences are designed to support NGSS and student’s social and emotional development.  Transportation will be provided.
  • Week of Kindness (Feb 10-14). Love your planet. Love your community. Love your school.  A series of daily events discussing, creating and participating in activities throughout the week intended to promote altruism, generosity, empathy, and kindness.  For example:
  • Kindness Activity Wall – Students capture random acts of kindness that they have carried out or received
  • Gratitude Stations – Students have an opportunity to practice kindness to self and others at Gratitude Card stations set up in individual classrooms
  • Environmental Ambassadors – Students research an environmental concern.  They will create posters to supplement presentations given to the younger grade classrooms to promote environmental awareness.
  • Overnight Trip (Apr 18-19). A two-day one-night outdoor learning experience in the Santa Cruz mountains just outside Boulder Creek.  Naturalists at Large (“NAL”) is an outdoor and environmental education group that provides programs to promote students’ wonder of nature, community building, and social emotional growth.  NAL will provide all tents, food, and lead all activities. Parent drivers and chaperones will be needed. The Overnight is parent-led and not an official MES/OUSD event.
  • Six-Flags Education Day (May 8).  Education Days have activities and aspects that cover math, science, physics, biology, career & leadership, and performing arts.  Transportation to/from Six Flags Discover Kingdom will be provided.
  • Memory Book.  A collection of photos chronicling the students time at MES over the years. The Memory Book is specific to our 5th graders and is separate from the MES yearbook.
  • Promotion Ceremony & Reception (May 28).  Similar to last year, the Promotion Ceremony will take place in the MPR and the Reception will be at Montclair Park immediately following.
  • Class of 2021 Gift to MES.  Students will be working as a group to create an inspirational wall mural out of 100 individual tiles using grid art practices.  Each student will be assigned a tile and therefore a hands-on contributor to the class of 2021 Parting Gift to MES.

Be sure to sign up for the 5th Grade Families hub on MemberHub. The hub will be our primary communications resource for all things 5th-grade this year, including updates on activities and schedules. Check the main MemberHub calendar periodically for updates.
