5th Grade Program

What is the 5th Grade Program?

Every year, the 5th Grade Class conducts its own fundraising drive, primarily to raise monies for the class’ spring overnight trip. Since 2015, the 5th Grade class’ trip has been to Sierra Outdoor School, in Sonora, CA. It is a two-night, three-day trip for all 5th graders with MES staff and parent chaperones. Costs for the trip are covered by a combination of family donations and the class’ fundraising activities. In addition to the trip, the fundraising program also pays for the Promotion Ceremony and Picnic, the Class Memory Book (separate from the school-wide yearbook), scholarships, and class gifts for the school and teachers.

To achieve our fundraising goal, we offer the following activities and opportunities for all 5th Grade Families to participate. Proceeds from these activities go towards the program expenses.

  • Event Concessions. Our class manages and staffs food and beverages concessions at select school events such as the Family Movie Night, Craft & Makers Fair, and Winter Sing.
  • Sweatshirts. This are custom-designed, limited edition items that the 5th Grade class offers for sale schoolwide.
  • Hosted Parties. Hosted parties are usually family events, or activities specific to 5th-graders only. One thing is for sure, fun will be had by all.
  • Craft & Makers Faire. This event brings in a significant portion of our fundraising monies, while also providing an excellent opportunity for students and their families to participate. This is also scheduled right around the holiday season so keep this in mind for your holiday shopping lists.
  • Family Contributions. We appreciate donations. Every family is welcome to donate or participate at a level that is most comfortable for them.

Be sure to sign up for the 5th Grade Families hub on MemberHub. The hub will be our primary communications resource for all things 5th-grade this year, including updates on activities and schedules. Check the main MemberHub calendar periodically for updates.

Let’s make this the best 5th Grade Year Experience for our kids!

2018-2019 Sweatshirts

Every year, the 5th Grade Class presents a limited edition sweatshirt for sale school-wide. Alumnus parent Mannie Rabara, designer and dad of Merritt Rabara (MES Class of 2013), created this year’s design, with Love and Positivity as the main theme. Love One An Otter is a custom-designed hooded sweatshirt that will be offered in youth and adult sizes. When Mannie is not working on his next design project, he loves to train for marathons with his wife Gem. And he’s also a Warriors fan! We are incredibly grateful to Mannie, dad to Merritt (who is now at Skyline High) and Georgia (who is studying at Cal), for donating his time and talent to MES. For questions, please contact , 5th Grade Sweatshirt Team Lead.
