MONTCLAIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER – APRIL 29, 2015 VOL. 31
A MESSAGE FROM DR. SUSAN ABOUT VIDEO GAMES
I get frequent requests from parents on how to deal with video games. I’d be a lot more famous than I am if I had a quick answer for that. But here are a few suggestions: 1) do have some time limits, conditions, and have some days with no time on the games; 2) make sure that when the time is up, the children turn off the game themselves; 3) try to create some balance – e.g. exercise time, time for reading, time on creative pursuits, time outside classes and time on media; 4) where possible, use the games to connect the child to something more useful or worthwhile – for example, writing or dictating about the game or research on elements of the game. I’d be grateful to gather other strategies parents have tried and share them with other parents. So let me know what works for your family.
