COMMON CORE & SBAC TESTING UPDATE – TONIGHT!
OUSD’s Robin D. Lovell, Elementary Mathematics Coordinator, will discuss the status of Common Core at the PTA meeting this evening at 7pm in the Multipurpose Room. She will provide an update on the implementation of Common Core and what to expect with next month’s Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) test. HERITAGE DAY CELEBRATION
Come out and celebrate Heritage Day this Friday, April 17, 1-2:30pm. We will have a great line up of performances, games, and of course, our food tasting booth! Let’s celebrate and enjoy what makes our school special and unique. We invite kids of all ages to dress up in traditional costumes from around the world. This fun-filled event wouldn’t be a success without the generous support and volunteer help from our school community. We are looking for assistance with setup, games, tasting booth, and cleanup. MES SCIENCE FAIR
The MES Science Fair will be held at the school on Thursday, April 23, 5-7pm. The purpose of the science fair is to encourage students in grades 1-5 to develop a question, design an experiment to test that question, and then to run the experiment and present their findings in poster board format. For more information, please speak to your student’s teacher.
LAST CHANCE TO BUY: FIRST SCHOOL-WIDE YEARBOOK!
Our first ever school-wide yearbook is now available for sale through TODAY, April 15! Over 80 color pages of school events – Otter Walk, Halloween Parade, Winter Sing, classroom candids and individual portrait shots of each student. The yearbook will be delivered the last week of school. Cost is $27; payable with a check (made out to Montclair PTA), or through Paypal using this link. FOUNDERS DAY LUNCHEON
The 2015 Founders’ Day Luncheon will be on Wednesday, April 22, 11:30am-12:45pm, in the Ottertorium. This will be our 89th year celebrating the volunteers, teachers and staff who make our school community so special. The 2015 Founders Day honorees are:

WALK-AND-ROLL TO SCHOOL ON EARTH DAY
MES will celebrate Earth Day by walking and rolling to school on Wednesday, April 22. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our health, the environment, and our school spirit. The MES Student Council and The Green Team encourage all students, parents and teachers to walk, bike, skate, carpool or take the bus to school. Wear an MES shirt to show your school spirit. PLUS, stop by our booth on the playground to grab a goodie and track how you got to school before the bell rings! Spare the environment and connect with other families who live in your neighborhood and carpool. Or, park in the Village and walk to school with your child or form a walking school bus with friends. OAKLAND A’S STEP UP TO THE PLATE FOR EDUCATION
As many of you know, the Montclair Language League (MLL) is excited to participate in the Oakland A’s Step Up to the Plate for Education program for the 2015 season! Students, parents, and their friends and families have the opportunity to purchase special fundraising tickets for select A’s games. A portion of each ticket will benefit MLL.
