The PTA is looking for a volunteer to take over one of our most fun jobs: managing the school marquee sign! Your job would be to make sure the marquee is updated on a weekly basis. Lace up those shoes, dust off those bikes, or get ready to share your ride! The Safe Routes to Schools Pollution Solution 2016: Golden Sneaker Contest is coming to MES!

For two weeks, February 22 – March 4,  participating classrooms will be tracking and talking about the benefits of using active transportation – walking and rolling (biking, skateboarding or using a scooter) or shared transportation (riding the school bus, using public transportation and/or carpooling with other families) – to come to school. The classroom with the highest percentage of these healthy travel choices will win the Golden Sneaker Trophy and celebration. The contest offers a chance for every student to participate. If you live too far from school to walk or roll, you can always:

• Park a few blocks away and walk

• Meet up with friends who live close to school and walk as a group

• Start a carpool

The Basketball Court in the upper parking lot should be clear of cars after the morning drop-off and throughout the school day to allow our students additional PE minutes in that space. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.


Thanks to all of your contributions and some great work by parents, MES has received $2,783 so far from its Schoola clothing drive in September! Hoorah! We hope to have another drive soon. Stay tuned.


We are in need of parent volunteers (from any class or grade) on Tuesday afternoons to help support our lower grade Art program.  Art volunteering is easy; no art expertise or knowledge necessary.  The main purpose of the Art Volunteer is to help prep and pass out art supplies for class, assist children with their projects (i.e. tying a knot, cutting with sharp scissors, hole punching, etc.), and help with clean-up after class.  It’s a really fun experience and you get to help make memories for MES students, while doing art!  We need help for Ms. Morozumi, 12:45p-1:35pm; and Mr. Hauser, 1:50-2:40pm on Tuesday afternoons, with Ms. Sofie.  Any help is welcome and much appreciated even if you can only pitch in a day or two, or here and there!  Please consider supporting our Art program.  If you can lend a hand, please contact Art Volunteer Coordinator, Kim Watson at .

Wine Donation for Auction. We still need your help. We are half way there and we are accepting wine donations until FridayFebruary 19! Help us reach our goal with your donation (bottle valued at $15 ) for auction at the Otter Bash. The Otter Bash helps raise critical funds that support the wonderful enrichment programs and services benefiting all MES students.  Important Donation Drop-Off Changes—Please drop off your donation in the morning only to the adult volunteers on Mountain Blvd, by the tennis court parking lot.

Your child is not expected to sell these tickets; we just want to make it easy for every family at MES to purchase the tickets. Otter Bash Donation Deadline: February 25. Don’t delay!  Donate – an item, a service, or an experience!  There is just one week left to submit your donations for the Otter Bash.  Donation forms are available on the Montclair Elementary School website and completed forms can be dropped in the Otter Bash mailbox in the main office.


Volunteer and Receive a Complimentary Ticket! A huge part of the success of our fundraising events is the enthusiastic volunteers from our school community. The Otter Bash committee recognizes the hard work and dedication of our parent volunteers. As a token of appreciation, we are offering a limited number of complimentary Otter Bash tickets in exchange for a minimum number of volunteer hours, as follows:

·      Three and a half hours of pre-event volunteer work;

·      A total of at least one hour volunteer work on the evening of the event (any combination of volunteer shifts, preferably at check-our or clean-up).

OUSD invites you to participate in the 2015–16 OUSD Parent School Survey (CA Healthy Kids Survey – CHKS). This survey (http://goo.gl/nz5974) is an opportunity for you to help MES by sharing your opinions about our school.  The survey provides the District information on MES’ efforts to promote academic success and the well-being of every student, as well how well the school is supporting you to be a true partner in your child’s education. If you have more than one child at MES, you may fill out a separate survey for each child – or just focus on the experience of one of your children at the school. More than one caregiver may fill out the survey as well. No one can tell who filled out this survey. Your answers are completely private. As tax time approaches, we have been getting requests for receipts of 2015 charitable contributions to Montclair School PTA.   This is a reminder that any contribution of $249.99 or less can simply be substantiated with your cancelled check, pay stub for payroll deduction donations, or PayPal receipt. If you made a single contribution of $250 or more AND you are eligible to itemize your deductions, you may request a written receipt from the PTA to comply with IRS substantiation requirements. (These are typically Otter Walk donations, or other monetary donations to the school.) Other donations, such as Pay-To-Play payments or auction purchases are considered “quid pro quo” and are generally not deductible. To request a 2015 receipt for any donation of $250 or more, please send your name, address, date of gift, gift amount, and proof of payment (copy of cancelled check, pay stub for payroll deduction donations, or paypal receipt), to Kevin Tam ().   Please allow 1-2 weeks for processing. Important note: Although we are happy to provide receipts, please consult your tax advisor or accountant as to the deductibility and tax treatment of any gift you make to our school.
