MES 2015 SPELLING BEE
The spelling bee season has officially started!
We will have a written preliminary spelling bee on Friday, January 9, 2015. The top spellers will then go on to our Montclair Elementary Spelling Bee, which will be held on Tuesday, January 13. Each 3rd, 4th and 5th grader is eligible to participate. After our school-wide bee, the Oakland Unified School District is holding its spelling bee in February 2015, only for 4th and 5th graders. The 4th or 5th grade winner from our school bee will be participating. Montclair’s overall spelling bee champion will go on to the San Francisco Chronicle Spelling Bee beginning February 21.
Visit our website to learn more about our school spelling bee program and view flyers for study tips and practice times. Questions? Please contact Ms. Cruz at.
OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS
Don’t miss your kid’s report card—turn in those overdue library books!
Report cards will be distributed this Friday, December 12. This means it’s time to round up all of those overdue library books your students may have lurking under their beds, in their backpacks, or in their desks at school. Students with overdue books at the library will not receive their report cards until the books are returned or, if lost, paid for at the school library. All teachers have up-to-date lists of all overdue books. Please check with your child’s teacher to see if there are overdue books or not. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Baedeker at .
LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES IS FRIDAY!

CREATIVE TYPES NEEDED

THE PTA NEEDS AN AUDITOR
Are you a financially savvy person? Are you interested in digging into the details of PTA finances? The PTA is in need of YOU! We need an auditor to join our Board. This person is responsible for reviewing the books and records of the PTA and providing recommendations for improvements regarding fiscal policies and procedures. The work can be done on your own time, so it’s great for a working parent. If you are interested, please contact Amy Omand at .
WINTER BINGO AT THE PUBLIC LIBRARY
This winter, Oakland Public Library is launching Winter Bingo, a reading program that encourages kids to read and have fun during the winter break. Once kids have their game board they can start playing. Each square on each game board has an activity, such as tell a joke or read a story. When kids complete five boxes in a row they can come to any Oakland Public Library and collect a free book. Print out the game card attached or pick one up at the Montclair branch or any Oakland public library. Another game board is available for younger siblings ages 0-5! If you have any questions, please contact Montclair Library’s Children’s Librarian Sally Engelfried at .
