KITCHEN NEWS: ONLINE PAYMENT IS HERE!!!
Online payment for lunch is finally here! The system goes live today. You can pay online, track your child’s account balance, and even set up low balance reminders and automatic payments! MES is piloting this program for OUSD, so we are the first to try it. Please keep in mind that it is for MES only;if you have kids at other OUSD schools, their online payment system may not be in place yet. To set up your household account, go to www.. To add a student to your account, you’ll need his/her date of birth. If you have problems logging in or accessing the system, please contact the school office and ask for Yesenia or email .
SBAC PRESENTATION AND RESOURCES
Last night, Dr. Devin Dillon, PhD, OUSD chief academic officer, presented to our school community an informative session on the new Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) tests. If you missed last night’s info session, here’s a link to the SBAC presentation, including a short video that explains test scores and key links to valuable resources for parents. To learn more about SBAC, visitwww.smarterbalanced.org.
HALLOWEEN PARADE THIS FRIDAY
The MES all-school Halloween parade will take place this Friday, October 30, 2pm in the Upper Playground! Here are a few important reminders:
•This is a time for children to get creative, so allow them to be whatever they wish!
•Please do NOT send your children to school in their costumes. They will change into their costumes after lunch and before the parade, so please send them with their costumes in the morning in a bag labeled with their name. We would hate for them to lose part of their costume before the official festivities even begin.
•NO weapons, cardboard, plastic or otherwise (this means no toy swords, guns, bow and arrows, etc.)
•Join us for the big school-wide parade in the upper yard around 2 pm. Most classes will also have a party before or after the parade, but please check in with your individual classes for details. Parents can view the parade from outside of the parade circle.
SCHOOL TOURS ARE BACK!
MES school tours for prospective families are back! We will be conducting 2015-16 school tours beginning Wednesday, November 4. We are looking for volunteers or school ambassadors to help orient and show our school to prospective families. Tours will be held on Wednesday mornings (8:30-9:30am), and this year, we are including 2 Saturday dates (9-10am). This year, we are expecting a higher number of interests due in part to our recent recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School. This is one of the most fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities. For new volunteers, you can sign up for one of two 30-minute orientation sessions (Monday, November 2;or, Friday, November 13). To volunteer, use this SignUpGenius form. For questions, please contact , PTA VP-Diversity & Outreach
MARK YOUR CALENDARS: PICTURE DAYS
It is that time of the year again – Picture Days for all students and classes will be on November 4-5. We need two volunteers per class to help your class teacher and the photographer organize our students for the group and individual photos. To volunteer, contact your class teacher or Room Parent(s). Please consult with your teacher and/or room parent(s) for your class’ designated date and time schedule.Group and individual photos will be taken in the front of the school (outside the main doors by Ms. Bloom’s office). The class group portrait will be taken first followed by the individual portraits (including teachers). Combs and face wipes will be provided. However, students are encouraged to bring their own comb or hairbrush.
PARENT INFO NIGHT – FILM SCREENING OF BEYOND MEASURE
On Thursday, November 5, 6:30-8:30pm (MES Multipurpose Room), Montclair and Hillcrest Elem Schools will present a film screening of Beyond Measure – a follow-up to Race to Nowhere from director Vicki Abeles. In Race to Nowhere, Ms. Abeles unveiled the dark side of America’s achievement culture. With Beyond Measure, Abeles shows what’s possible in education when we trust in the ingenuity of students, parents, and teachers. Communities transform education by putting research, and proven innovative models into practice. This film is appropriate for all ages. Limited childcare, including a pizza dinner, will be available. Signup for the event here:. Signup for childcare here:
