Weekly Newsletter 10/14/15

On Wednesday, October 21, 12:30pm, Montclair Elementary School will conduct a disaster drill and school will be dismissed at 1:30pm following the drill. Please be patient and follow our special instructions for pick-up that day to help the school practice its plan for keeping track of students in case of a disaster:

***When you (or anyone listed on your emergency release form) arrive at 1:30 pm to pick up your student(s), you will need to come to the upper parking lot gate and show ID before they are released to you. Everyone picking up a child MUST show ID, including parents. Please be patient – the gates will be locked until Principal Bloom gives the “All Clear” to begin releasing children.

***If someone NOT listed on your emergency release form will be picking up your child at1:30pm that day, or if your child may be released to walk home alone, you must print and fill out the form at http://goo.gl/aYVyrC and return it to the school office by Monday, October 19.

***If your child goes to AT, JCC, Montclair Rec, or an After-School Enrichment class on Wednesday, you do not need to make any special arrangements. Children will be released to those programs.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important effort!

In an effort to provide better service to students and families, the Oakland Unified School District is asking for feedback from the public about its current enrollment system and ways in which it can be improved. Parents and guardians of current or past Oakland public school students are being asked to complete a short, on-line survey available at www.ousd.org/enrollmentsurvey. The results of the survey will inform the District’s decision-making process regarding any changes to the enrollment system, and will be shared with the general public as well. OUSD Superintendent Antwan Wilson said that as the District examines how to improve its enrollment practices and policies, it is important that parents and guardians share their experiences in order to create a fair and transparent process that serves all families.

Do you have two hours a month to help the school-wide yearbook committee? Want to help create lasting memories for your child? This is a perfect volunteer job for the time-constrained parent who wants to be more involved in our school. Interested? Please contact Jennifer Ames, PTA Historian, at  for additional information. There are all sorts of opportunities on the committee!
