MONTCLAIR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WEEKLY NEWSLETTER – OCTOBER 1, 2014 VOL. 6

KITCHEN UPDATE

Thank you for supporting our kitchen! We are near completion with the new finger scanning system, with just a few students left to be enrolled. Very soon, we should have our new system set up to run two check-out lines with two finger scan readers. The next step will be to get the new serving station that will accommodate two lines for service, instead of the single line of students. The kitchen team is currently working on the ETA for this new station. Stay tuned. For questions, please email

OUSD Nutrition Services was featured on PBS News Hour! Check it out at http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/california-school-district-rewrites-menu-student-lunches/ For other news from OUSD Nutrition Services, please read the latest newsletter, Food for Thought, here. STUDENT COMFORT PACKETS DUE OCTOBER 10TH

Each student at MES must turn in a food/comfort packet in the event of an earthquake or other emergency. Our school’s emergency supplies will allow us to provide basic supplies of food, water and juice for the children, but nothing brings comfort to a child like a snack and something special from home. Comfort packets will be stored with the school’s emergency supplies and will be handed out if needed. Ask your Safety & Disaster Preparedness Room Rep for more info.

NO AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES OCT 13-17

Please note that there will be NO ASE classes the week of October 13th–17th due to parent/teacher conferences.

KINDER TOURS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Believe it or not, Kinder Tours for prospective Montclair families are just around the corner. Tour dates for November, December and January are getting finalized at the moment, but we are looking for volunteers or school ambassadors to help orient and show our school to new families. If you are interested in volunteering for the tours or would like additional information, please email PTA VP of Outreach .

ART OF EDUCATION CAMPAIGN

The Winebow Group and Kris Wine are pleased to announce the “Art of Education Campaign.” This is the 5th Annual campaign, and once again Kris Wine will donate grants to support arts education in America’s public schools and arts education advocacy. The program runs from September 8th to October 31st. Last year, Montclair received a $1,000 grant! Currently, we are in 13th place; only the top 16 vote earners qualify for the grant. You can help Montclair with a few clicks and vote on Kris Wine’s Facebook page. Vote DAILY and encourage friends and family to vote as well. Go to  www.facebook.com/kriswines, and click “Art of Education.” Thanks for helping our school receive this grant.
