Otter Walk 2017

Pre-register your credit card for Hosted Parties & preview Hosted Parties

Avoid the craziness during the Otter Walk and pre-register your credit card for Hosted Parties! Go here and click on “Register Your Card.” You can also preview the Hosted Party catalog so you can know which parties you want to sign up for.

Once you’ve pre-register your card, all you have to do is check-in at the Hosted Party table to collect your BID number and start signing up. Sign up for parties on the boards located in front of the portables at 10am. No check out required. You may pre-register your card between 8-10am at the Hosted Party table on the day of the Otter Walk.

**You must use your BID number to sign-up for parties. If you don’t register your card before the end of the Otter Walk, you will lose your spot**

Sign-up for day-of-event shifts. It’s a great way to meet other families and join in the fun. We need every family’s help to fill the 200+ volunteer shifts.

About the Otter Walk

When is it?

October 21st, 2017 8am-4pm

What is it?

The Montclair Otter Walk is the biggest, most fun, and community-oriented fundraiser that the PTA coordinates for our school. This is the day that all the students, teachers, and parents look forward to walking, prizes, walking, visiting, food, entertainment, and walking!

Why do we do it?

The funds we raise will support our PTA enrichment and community programs, including library, computer lab, art, vocal music, and much more. We also support teachers with a substantial annual fund for classroom supplies and host many special projects around the school. Read our  Otter Walk Parent Guide.

How can I learn more?

Students received the Otter Walk packet at the September 8th kick-off assembly. If you did not receive a packet, pick up an extra one at the office. Please read this packet. It contains a schedule, information about collecting pledges, prize levels and a permission slip.

Where do we walk?

This year’s one-kilometer lap will include the perimeter of the school and Montclair Park.

How can my student participate?

To walk, each student needs a signed Otter Walk permission form .  We also ask that each child find at least one sponsor. Use our online pledge system to solicit and collect your pledges.  Download the pledge form and sponsorship instructions for more information on logging in to your DoJiggy page and collecting pledges.

Help your child contact relatives, friends, co-workers, and neighbors for sponsorships. Sponsors can donate a flat amount or an amount per lap, and all sponsor donations are tax-deductible. More sponsors = more prizes.

Did you say prizes?

Students are eligible to receive prizes at the prize assembly in November. EVERY MES student who comes to the Otter Walk gets a t-shirt! It’s the most coveted clothing item of the year! In-class parties are given to all classes in which 100% of kids show up and walk. Special recognition is also given to classes that walk the farthest, the student who walks the farthest in each grade, the top fundraising student, and the student who collects the most sponsors in the school. Prize Details and ‘Walk like a Dog‘ party.

Do parents get to have fun too?

Parents can join in the fun by walking with their kids, shopping at The Otter Shop, volunteering, and signing up for activities hosted by teachers and parents on the Hosted Party Events wall. Details and information about Hosted Parties. We will even be raffling off exciting prizes! When the kids take a break from walking, they can look for the Apron ‘Prize’ Person, have their faces painted, refresh with a fresh fruit smoothie from the bike smoothie or a treat from the Dad’s Club sugar shack. Delicious breakfast, lunch and snacks are available at our food concessions throughout the day.

It’s fun!

Come hang out with friends and get to know others while helping your school. Don’t forget to wear comfy shoes, bring sunscreen and a water bottle for your child, and don’t forget your credit card for the Hosted Parties. Everything else can be paid for using Otter Bucks. Purchase Otter Bucks here. Join us for a great day walking, signing up for hosted party events, enjoying live entertainment, eating and connecting with your community at the Otter Walk.

* More sponsorships! Last year you and your friends raised over 1/3 of the PTA’s operating budget. WOW!
