Montclair PTA General Meeting
Wednesday, November 12, 2014
Montclair Multipurpose Room
Kitty called the meeting to order at 7:15 pm.
No official sign-in was provided, but approximately 49 people assembled for the meeting. Quorum is 20. Quorum is present.
Kitty welcomed the audience and presented the agenda for the evening.
Jennifer Keith talked about the success of the OW and asked for volunteers for the Joaquin Miller fundraiser coming up.
The principal of Montera spoke of his professional background and the steps he took to being a principal of a middle school.
He discussed how kids at Montera take ownership of their learning and are responsible for what goes on at Montera. He has several programs in place that promote a positive experience for all students. He is developing many extra curricular programs to meet the needs of the students.
Three students came to discuss the transition between 5th and 6th grade and the successes and struggles they experienced. They gave a few suggestions for students and how to be successful in middle school.
Two parents came to discuss their experiences in the middle school environment. One spoke about Claremont Middle School and the other spoke about Montera Middle School.
After each panel member spoke they conducted a question and answer session.
In summing up the conversation, the panel members were positive about their experiences in public middle school. The students gave advice about how to be successful and the parents expressed positive comments about the student management procedures in place at Montera.
