10/23/2013 – Weekly Message

Thanks to all of our wonderful parents, teachers, students, staff, and our principal for making the Otter Walk a smashing success!

Saturday was truly a great day. Thanks again to everyone who came and made it a truly memorable event–one of the best Otter Walks ever! Now, a few items of business . . .

Donations Deadline: Friday, November 8th.
Wait! It’s not over. The next step (once your child is fully rested!) is collecting pledges. Once you’ve collected ALL your sponsor money, put it in the manila envelope you received at check out, and turn it in to your child’s teacher. (Couldn’t make it on Saturday or forgot to check out? Keep reading for more details!)

Online Pledges–IMPORTANT!
If you have encouraged sponsors to use our online system, you’ll need to make sure they have entered your student’s first and last name so that proper credit can be applied! In addition, our system is not robust and PTA will be unable to research donations on your behalf. You’ll need to ask your sponsors to email a copy of your transaction to the sponsored student’s parent or guardian so that they can keep track of all pledges
fulfilled! Even if you don’t get that confirmation for your tracking sheet, rest assured the amounts will be added to your child’s balance when we reconcile the online donations submitted in mid-November.

Unable to attend on Saturday?
Your child can still secure sponsors to help their class earn the 100% participation prize and to earn fundraising prizes, even if he or she didn’t walk! We’d love to get 100% participation this year! Look for your envelope in this week’s Green Folder. Ask your teacher for your envelope if you don’t get it.

Did you forget to check out?
Several kids did not come to pick up their envelopes at check out. Look for your envelope in this week’s Green Folder. Ask your teacher for your envelope if you don’t get it this week. Please note, in order for your child to be eligible for prizes based on kilometers walked, you must return your lap cards when you turn in your pledge envelope.

Did your walker go home with their lanyard?
We are missing approximately 70 blue lanyards. If you see any lying around your home, please turn them into the office. We reuse them each year and it will help to cut costs.

Did you forget to pay for your Pay-to-Play purchase?
Many people forgot to pay for their events on Saturday. Reminders will be going out shortly to the individuals who did not pay. You will be reminded how much you owe, and given information about where to drop off or send checks. Because many of the events sold out, you will have one week to get your payment in or we will begin crossing off names and working down the waiting lists. Questions? Contact paytoplay@montclairschool.com.

In early December, students attend a special assembly to celebrate one another’s accomplishments. Classes will be awarded special parties for walking, securing the highest levels of sponsorships, and for achieving 100% participation. Every child, no matter how far they walk or how much they raise, will take home the prize at our first prize level. Additional prizes will be awarded for the top walker in each grade and for securing high levels of donations. If your student raises a minimum of $75, he/she will take home a t-shirt. (As with all financial contributions to the school, there is a fund that is distributed confidentially to families who need it. If your child makes an effort to raise funds but cannot meet the $75 threshold for the t-shirt, please contact Principal Bloom and he or she will receive a t-shirt.)
