Otterly Awesome Oakland is this year’s theme . . . please help us show a little Oakland Pride (something we can all get behind!) and plan to attend our biggest student-centered fundraising & community building event of the year!

Pay-to-Plays! Deadline is Oct. 7!   We need Hosts!!!!

Calling all current committee members, class reps, and those interested in getting more involved. Come and meet new friends and hear updates from volunteers regarding the various aspects of the event. Volunteer at the Otter Walk: We have over 200 shifts to fill. We need every family’s help! Click here to volunteer for day-of-event shifts now.

Help your student secure sponsors. Ask neighbors, family, friends, and colleagues (don’t forget about company matching gifts!). We’ve given you tips on goal setting, sample letters, and more in the packets that went home and on our website. Don’t forget, all proceeds from the Otter Walk support MES Enrichment Programs.

NO AFTER-SCHOOL
ENRICHMENT CLASSES
OCT 7-11!

Due to the minimum day schedule, there will not be any ASE classes next week. This includes Monday, even though it is a regular school day. The normal schedule will resume October 14th.

Help us win $$ for our Art Program!!!
VOTE NOW – Vote Often!!

 

If even a few of us vote once per day, we have a real opportunity to win some much-needed funding for our Art program.  Be one of those people!!

KRIS wine is Arts Education in the U.S. with its Discover the Art of Education campaign.  Similar to years past, KRIS wine has teamed up with Americans for the Arts to giveaway $25,000 of arts education grants to the top 16 schools with the most votes.

Help us spread the word and make this year’s campaign a success by voting for Montclair:

Mr. Turner will eventually be able to use the new Multipurpose Room for instruction but the platform area is not ready for his students yet.  Due to this construction delay, there have been some unforeseen schedule adjustments as we began this year’s programs.  We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and do not expect any further changes.  Also rest assured that this was a one-time occurrence and next year Mr. Turner’s instructional time will be locked down before the school year begins.  Thank you for your continued patience as we live through the final stages of bringing our new school facilities to life!!

Please put your child’s first and last name on everything!  Each month, non-profit organizations in the Bay Area benefit from the many jackets, sweaters & lunch boxes left behind by our students.  If there is a name on a misplaced item, Nancy Bloom makes an effort to get the item back to its rightful owner.  Unmarked or illegibly marked items are on display in the Lost & Found area in the hall of the main building leading out to the lower play yard.  All items in Lost & Found are collected the last Friday of EVERY month and sent away to organizations that will put them to good use.  Check the area for your child’s belonging before the end of day THIS FRIDAY if you are missing anything.

COME WALK THE TALK AT MONTERA

Want to get an up-close view of Montera, your neighborhood middle school? Great! We’d love to see you. Please mark your calendar now for one of our parent-led tours. There’s no need to RSVP. Simply come with your student (if you wish), your curiosity and your questions.

Tours start promptly at 9:10 AM in the courtyard outside of Montera’s front office and should conclude around 10 AM. Montera Information Night @ Montclair

If you’d like to learn more about Montera –– and we certainly hope you do! –– you and your student are invited to attend a special Montera Information Night at Montclair on Wednesday, October 23, from 6 – 7 PM, in the auditorium. You’ll hear from, and get to ask questions of, principal Tina Tranzor, 6th grade Math teacher, Paul Barron, and a posse of Montclair alum (& current Montera) students and parents. We look forward to seeing you.
